Category C is the most widely used HGV licence in the UK. Rigid vehicles can access urban areas and smaller roads that larger vehicles cannot, making Category C drivers in demand across a broad range of sectors including logistics, retail distribution, construction and waste management.
Starting salaries for Category C drivers typically range from £28,000 to £38,000 per year, with earning potential increasing with experience and additional licence categories.
Easy As HGV provides a fully managed Category C HGV training service, coordinating the entire process on your behalf. From your medical and provisional licence application through to theory revision support, test booking, practical training and job search assistance, we handle it all.

Category C is the licence most haulage firms look for first. It qualifies you to drive any rigid body vehicle over 3.5 tonnes, making you immediately employable across logistics, construction, distribution and public sector roles. It is also the starting point if you plan to progress to a Category C+E (Class 1) artic licence in future.
Once you have your Category C licence, our recruitment team provides job search support to help you find the right HGV driving role as quickly as possible.
Finding your first HGV driving job is easier with the right support. Once you have passed your Category C test, our recruitment team works with you to get job-ready quickly.
We build your HGV driver recruitment profile, highlighting your new licence, relevant experience and availability. From there, we rewrite your CV or help you create your first one, tailored specifically for Category C driving roles. We can also support writing your covering letter so you can focus on finding the right opportunity rather than the paperwork.
Job search support is included as part of your HGV training package.
Most candidates complete their Category C HGV training in around 4 days of practical training, though the full process including medical, provisional licence application and theory test typically takes 6 to 10 weeks from start to finish. Easy As HGV coordinates every stage on your behalf, pre-booking key steps to reduce waiting time where possible.
Category C licence (also known as a Class 2 or HGV licence) allows you to drive any rigid goods vehicle over 3.5 tonnes, including lorries, tippers, box trucks, skip lorries and refuse vehicles. It does not cover articulated vehicles, for which you would need a Category C+E (Class 1) licence.
Starting salaries for newly qualified Category C drivers typically range from £28,000 to £38,000 per year, depending on sector, employer and location. Drivers who go on to gain a Category C+E (artic) licence generally command higher salaries, earning up to £50,000.
