All You Need To Know About The Driver CPC Theory Test
If you’re looking to start your journey to becoming a fully qualified HGV driver, we congratulate you! The road is long, but the rewards are great, and we can’t wait to help you on your way to your new career. One of the essential qualifications for driving HGV’s in the UK is a Driver CPC. To achieve this, you must undertake a lot of training, medical exams and 4 separate tests – 2 for theory and 2 for practical. In this post, we will guide you through the theory test process, and what you will need to do to pass.

Booking On To Your Test
Booking your theory test is the easiest part of the whole process. When you’re ready, visit this government website to find your nearest testing centre and book on. You can also book through third party sites if you want, but these will often add commission to the prices and you will end up paying more. The theory test will cost you £7 in total and can be adapted for those with hearing or reading difficulties, or translated into other languages, just tell your test centre.
On The Day
On the day of your test, you will need to go to your testing centre at the correct time, with your booking confirmation and identification – usually your provisional license. Without this, you might not be able to take the test. Once that’s all checked, you will be shown to a computer station and given some headphones, ready to begin.
Multiple Choice. The simplest element to understand, the multiple choice does what it says on the tin. Just choose the correct answer from the options for each question, and you will be on your way in no time. It is quite an intensive test – 115 minutes long with 100 questions to answer, and you must get 85 right to pass. Sometimes, there will be more than one correct answer, and the test will notify you if this is the case. If you’re not sure about an answer, you can ‘flag’ it to come back to later.
Hazard Perception. In the hazard perception section, you will need to identify hazardous situations in a number of films. There are 19 films in all ad 2 hazards (1 of the films contains 2), and your job is to identify them as quickly as possible. The quicker you identify the hazard, the more points you get. There are 100 points to score in all, and you must get 65 right for a pass. And for those who think they can pass this section by clicking everywhere, or in a pattern – you’re wrong. Do this and you will get a warning and 0 points for that film. Continue and your score will be 0.
What Happens If I Fail?
We all have bad days. Even the best of us. And sometimes those bad days happen when we could really use a good day. So understandably, some people taking their Driver CPC theory test do fail it the first time. But that’s no need to worry. You can apply to take the test again, without worrying that your past marks will affect your score. Each test is scored independently, and a retake is also free, so you don’t have to be out of pocket either.
